If you’ve ever stepped inside a gym for the first time, you probably know what it’s like to feel a little out of place, overwhelmed, lost or even intimidated.

How does this machine even work?! Fumble, fumble. OK, that’s not right.

It’s this kind of apprehension that Scott Docherty, a Vi Regional Director and certified personal trainer, wanted to eliminate when he started a Challenge Group.

“I started a ‘boot camp’ to really make something fun and easy to do without the worries of the big boot camps in the city,” Scott explained. “We are all about just being active and learning from each other. Most gyms or exercise groups can be very intimidating to a new person, and that is something I did not want to do. I wanted everyone to feel comfortable.”

The Key

Comfortable… but still challenging. But he learned that the key is to foster team bonding, keep people accountable, help them get faster results, and show them support. Scott’s Challenge Group caters to all fitness levels, and if some exercises are too intense, they dial it down to fit people’s needs.

Vi Customers and Promoters make up most of Scott’s group, but he also opens it up to new people to show them what they’re all about. The first time is free for newcomers, and after the initial session, they have to take on a Challenge.

The Agenda

Since Scott’s objective is to make the Challenge Group simple and convenient for everyone, he holds his boot camps in various locations, two times a week with weigh-ins every few weeks. The group meets 15 minutes prior to the sessions for anyone who has questions. Each boot camp is 45 minutes long, geared toward keeping people active and learning how to exercise properly. At the end of the sessions, Scott introduces Vi products to newcomers with samples and brochures.

The Social Conversation

Scott also maintains a Facebook page for his Challenge Group, which features education, information, Vi promotions, boot camp dates, and any other advice he can offer. He puts the “personal” in personal trainer by calling his Customers and Promoters at least once a week to see how they’re doing.

The Reward

“The most rewarding part of hosting a Challenge Group is seeing the progress people have made, being more involved in people’s lives, and creating great friendships with each other,” Scott said.

Beyond that, it has even helped his Vi business. “It introduces Vi to people who may have never heard of it before,” Scott said, adding, “it makes it easier to introduce people to The Challenge.”

Weight-Loss Challenge Champion Vicki Richardson's before & after photosTwo years ago, “adventure” was not a part of Vicki’s regular vocabulary. More than 100 lbs. overweight, she instead opted for using excuses.

“Last year, a friend challenged me to lose weight, and I told him no every day for five months,” says Vicki. “I gave every excuse: I don’t want your shakes; I don’t have the time; I don’t have the money…”

And as Vicki came up with different excuses, her reality stayed the same: Her weight was preventing her from enjoying life.

“It was all about the little struggles every day, like trying to put on pants,” she says. “I avoided trips with friends and gave into my fears. Fears like people staring at me, or going to a theme park and not fitting into the seats.”

But then her fears turned into anger…and then determination.

“Finally, I got sick of being overweight my entire life, and I made the decision to change my eating habits and lifestyle,” says Vicki. “I started The Challenge and went to the gym, and I initially lost 50 lbs. with the Transformation Kit.”

Although Vicki had a lot of weight to lose, she focused on achieving small realistic goals.

“I had a big goal at the beginning of my Challenge, and it was hard not to get overwhelmed,” she says. “So, I turned my big goal into smaller chunks…and focused on losing 10 lbs. at a time. It was a lot easier that way.”

Weight-Loss Challenge Champion Vicki Richardson holds up an old pair of jeansLosing 10 lbs. at a time eventually brought her a huge win: At Vitality 2014, Vicki was crowned ViSalus’ new Challenge Champion in the Weight-Loss Female category!

“Winning that title was the greatest moment of my life,” she says. “I had never received a medal before, and so the medal they gave me meant the world to me. It symbolizes how much The Challenge has changed my life—how it’s transformed me in every way. Socially. Financially. Physically.”

Now, 110 lbs. lighter and with plans to lose 25 more and to also build 15 lbs. of lean muscle, Vicki is focused forward.

“I changed my life direction, and I did it for ME,” she says. “What keeps me motivated is continually seeing my results as well as going public and making myself accountable. My biggest goal is to run a marathon. I know I can do that because…although I used to back-peddle, I’m now moving forward—full speed ahead.”

Vi Sweden’s First Female Ambassador, Adele Kamel: Filling a Void with a Passion to Help Others

Vi Sweden’s First Female Ambassador, Adele Kamel: Filling a Void with a Passion to Help Others

By http://www.bodybyvi.london http://www.giftofhealth.co.uk http://www.viinuk.co.uk · On December 16, 2014

Vi Sweden’s first female Ambassador Adele Kamel, originally from Lebanon, never quite felt like she fit in. “I’ve always been laughed at because I always wanted to go my own way… guess that is the feature of an entrepreneur,” she shared with us. That trait more than worked out for her—it led to her success.

Her Meteoric Rise

Adele’s meteoric rise in the short time she’s been with Vi (since the October launch of Vi Sweden) is rather impressive considering she had no prior network marketing experience. However, she’s no stranger to the world of entrepreneurship: at 29 years old, Adele has already had her own restaurant, a staffing firm, and several small companies. She also has an MBA and nutritionist background along with years of corporate experience, both in banking and other large companies.

A Void

One would think that with such diverse experience, Adele would’ve been fulfilled with the course of her career. But like most people pre-Vi, Adele felt a void.

“I came to a point in my life where I felt that I wasn’t satisfied. I didn’t bring value to enough people, doing what I am doing. Work in my opinion is not something you do for money. I need passion and a bigger meaning in my life. Otherwise, I will do the same thing day in and day out,” she explained. “It’s like being in a rat wheel—like a robot. And I want to inspire others to go after their passion—to follow and live their dreams.”

Aligned with the Vi Mission

Adele’s inherent desire to help people, coupled with her belief in the importance of health and nutrition led her to become a nutritionist. “I felt I needed to save the world from this disease called obesity. I just didn’t know how to reach out to as many people as possible,” she explained.

Once Adele was introduced to Vi, she saw the opportunity to build a team that shared the same vision. “Vi’s mission is something that fits my values, and is spot on what the world needs today,” she said.

Now, that void has been filled to the brim with a passion to help others.

Vi Director Rachael Novak Inspires Moms to Make Time for Health

Vi Director & Fitness Coach Rachael Novak Inspires Moms to Make Time for Health

By http://www.bodybyvi.london http://www.giftofhealth.co.uk http://www.viinuk.co.uk  · On December 16, 2014

When Vi Director Rachael Novak moved to a new area, she started a Challenge Group in hopes of growing her network and increasing her exposure. At the same time, she wanted to meet like-minded individuals who shared her passion for health and fitness.

“As a mom of two kids under five years old, I wanted to connect with other moms and inspire them to take care of themselves the way they take care of their kids every day,” Rachael said.

It was this idea that inspired the group name, “Moms Making Time [for Fitness].”

From Three to 160 Members

Within several weeks, Rachael had grown her three- to four-member group to over 160 members through referrals. A month later, she began offering free workouts in the park where she saw as many as 14 women attend.

“I was a local CrossFit coach at the time, and was hoping to inspire women to push themselves mentally and physically—more than they would going on a walk themselves,” said Rachael. “So I included a lot of plyometric work including bench step-ups, pushups, squats, sprints, line drills, etc.”

From Group to Venture

With the successful turnout of Rachael’s group, she left CrossFit and started her own company, FitMom. She now rents time at a local boutique fitness studio where she coaches four to five workout classes every week. Members are taught the basics of dumbbell/barbell lifting, plyometrics, kettlebells, core-strengthening exercises, and circuits combining bodyweight movements with weights.

After class (during stretching/cool down), members chat about goals, post-workout nutrition, and of course, how The Challenge is going for those who are on one.

The Rewards

“The most rewarding part of my ‘job’ has been the improved self-awareness and confidence I have witnessed in my participants,” Rachael happily explained. “I absolutely love getting messages like, ‘I felt more confident than ever on vacation in my swimsuit thanks to you!’… as well as seeing women go from not being able to do a push-up, to doing four to five in a row during a workout. That kind of tangible progress (or as I call, ‘non-scale victories’) is invaluable in keeping motivation going!”

Having a group has also enabled Rachael to expose more of her local market to the Vi mission. It has helped PROJECT 10™ Kids and local charities as well as improved the lives of her friends in the community.

But beyond that, Rachael has been able to infuse her classes, her members and her Challengers with the elements that are such a huge part of the Vi culture: positive mentality and self-love.

Thanks to Vi

“ViSalus has encouraged and helped me to LIVE my passion not only because of the residual income, but because of the mentality that I CAN DO THIS,” said Rachael. “I always knew I could, and I always knew it would happen… I was just waiting for Vi to come along and be my vessel to get me where I wanted to go.”

To join the team and do the same for yourself, have a look at the web site http://www.giftofhealth.co.uk email RichardHowlett@sky.com

Gracias a Vi

“ViSalus me ha alentado y me ha ayudado a vivir mi pasión no sólo por el ingreso residual, pero debido a la mentalidad de que yo puedo hacer esto”, dijo Rachael. “Siempre supe que podía, y siempre supe que iba a suceder… Yo solo estaba esperando que Vi viniera por mi como un barco para que me llevara a donde yo quería ir.”

As Seen in UK’s Real People Magazine: ‘Incredible Shrinking Bride’ on The Challenge

By http://www.bodybyvi.london & http://www.giftofhealth.co.uk · On December 2, 2014

For some women, finding the perfect wedding dress is almost as crucial as finding the perfect guy. And when they find ‘the one’ (as in ‘the dress’), they’ll do whatever it takes to look their best in it.

When Emma Barwood, a UK mother of three young girls, walked into a bridal boutique and spotted a stunning white gown, it was love at first sight. But upon trying the dress, all she could do was fake a smile.

“All I could see were bingo wings and saggy fat bulging over the bodice,” Emma said. “I’d found my dream dress, but I didn’t see a beautiful bride—instead, I saw a frumpy, 20-stone mum.”

That’s when it hit her. Emma was determined to lose the weight and belly, and took on The Challenge.

Her days of gorging on a tub of Maltesers and meat pizzas were over. Instead, Emma enjoyed a vi shake for breakfast and lunch, and a healthy meal for dinner.

It wasn’t long before she lost 15 lbs, and from there, her weight just kept on plummeting.

“With the pounds still dropping off, to my delight, the boutique ordered a new one [dress] in the same style and agreed to take it in to a size 12,” Emma happily shared.

To add to the joy of fitting into her dress, Emma’s seven-year-old daughter said to her, “You look like a princess Mummy.”

Eight months after saying “I do,” Emma is now down to an astonishing size 8.

“I thought there was a fat chance I’d ever be slim,” said Emma, “but thanks to my perfect wedding frock, I’m the incredible shrinking bride!”

The 100-lb. Club recognizes Vi Customers and Promoters who achieve this remarkable milestone. However, relatively few persons can or should lose this amount of weight and Vi only supports this goal when it is the product of careful consideration and a responsible weight-loss program that includes exercise and healthy eating in conjunction with the tools and products offered by Vi. Persons aspiring to lose 100 lbs. or more should always consult first with their healthcare professionals.

Interview with Ruby Gettinger: Reality Star Opens Up About Weight Loss and Overcoming Obstacles

By http://www.bodybyvi.london http://www.giftofhealth.co.uk · On December 1st, 2014

In 2008 when the world first met Ruby Gettinger, the star of the hit American reality-documentary television series Ruby, they saw a woman who was nearly 500 lbs. and who was determined to lose the weight. Documenting her weight-loss journey in a public forum was a conscious step for Ruby, as she sought to inspire others to become healthier.

Every week, viewers tuned in to watch Ruby battle her weight as she faced everyday life challenges, like resisting food temptations at restaurants, squeezing into small bathroom stalls, and recovering from diet setbacks. And yet, what resonated most with audiences was Ruby’s refreshing candor and sense of humor throughout it all.

Now, four years later, Ruby is showing the world a different face—one that is happier, healthier… and thinner. And she credits The Challenge for her success.

To join the challenge go to http://www.viinuk.co.uk or http://www.giftofhealth.co.uk

GROWING PAINS

Since childhood, Ruby struggled with her weight. “In school, I was not only bigger than kids my own age, but I was bigger than my teachers,” she says. “I was definitely not the norm. My biggest challenge was learning how to fit into a world that typically doesn’t accept somebody big like me.”

But even at a young age, Ruby knew that maintaining a positive attitude would help her overcome her challenges and get people to look past her weight. “I was just like any other teenager; I acted like one, dreamed like one, had crushes like one—I just couldn’t dress like one,” she says. “But, I decided that I would not let my weight define me. I wanted to show the world that I was a lot more than my weight.”

A NEW JOURNEY—THE Vi KIND

It wasn’t long after her reality TV show ended that Ruby decided to once again go public with her weight-loss journey—this time with The Challenge. Only a month into her first 90-Day Challenge, Ruby had already started noticing results… beyond just the weight. “People were continually telling me how much healthier I looked and how much more I was moving!” she says. Today, Ruby is still moving. In fact, since she started The Challenge, she has lost over 100 lbs.

She had opted for the Transformation Kit, which is the most comprehensive Kit to help achieve maximum weight-loss results. Her daily routine includes starting her day with the ViSalus GO® Instant Energy Shot and then walking or biking for an hour. She then makes a delicious Vi-Shape® Shake with Vi-Trim® powder to help curb her appetite, along with vitamins and Vi-Slim® to support her metabolism.

SUPPORT THROUGH THE OBSTACLES

Ruby is continually surprised (and encouraged!) by all the support along the way. “I love how the Vi Community cheers each other on—it’s so motivating!”

This support was especially important to Ruby every time she faced challenges. “One of my biggest obstacles in the past few months has been letting the scale control me,” she explains. “It becomes really frustrating when you obsess about a number on the scale and don’t meet that weight for the week. For someone like me, the scale almost becomes my master—that number will determine if I was bad, good or great. And it becomes really discouraging. I could have an incredible week and give 200% of effort, but if that number on the scale doesn’t reflect all the blood, sweat and tears I had put in my workouts for that week, then I allow it to basically erase my hard work.”

Ruby, however, is learning how to overcome that number—one day at a time. “It’s really about mind over matter and a lot of prayer,” she says. “The mind is very powerful; it can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Words kill, words give life; they can be either poison or fruit—you choose.”

IT’S ABOUT A POSITIVE MINDSET

For Ruby, the power of positive thinking can make all the difference in not only setting goals, but also in achieving them. What would Ruby say to those who have convinced themselves they have tried everything to lose weight but just can’t?

“First, I would tell them, ‘I totally get it! I completely understand.’ For the majority of us, this IS an addiction, and like any addiction, you need help. I’ve learned that it’s not just about transforming the body—you have to transform your entire self: mind, body and spirit. Don’t focus on what you didn’t do, or what you can’t do, or how many times you’ve failed or will fail. Shift your eyes off that negativity and focus just on what you can do or change today. It’s why I love The Challenge so much! Everybody can set and accomplish a goal in 3 months.”
